Service Cancellations

MCC Illiana is cancelling all activities until further notice. We hope to be able to gather as soon as we feel that it safe for our community to gather for public worship. Given the need for caution in this time of the COVID-19 epidemic in our area, we ask you wear a facemark when you have to be out in public and maintain social distancing In the meanwhile we have begun posting video messages from Rev. Michael on Facebook and YouTube and our deacons have been reaching out to people to check in. We will continue to monitor information from health authorities as it is updated and share any changes to our schedule via emails, our website and social media. If you would like to make a special contribution to help MCC Illiana pay our bills during this time (we still have our mortgage, NIPSO and other expenses that don't take time off during an epidemic) you can make your weekly donation safely at home by our PayPal link. Please stay safe during this time.

Metroplitan Community Church Illiana is a Christian church with a focus on gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer spirituality. With a firm foundation in the teachings of Jesus Christ as recorded in the Holy Scriptures, we reach out with an affirming message of the full inclusion of all people in the sacraments of the church. Taking our faith from the dark places where other churches seem to drop us, we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus from the isolation of the tomb to the light of a transformed world. We seek to move our community from the darkness of hatred and fear and into the light of God's love. We believe in the diversity of being created in God's image and create opportunities for GBLTQ people of faith and their allies to gather for Biblical study, spiritual development and social justice.

our focus on inclusive faith

Many in our community have been deeply wounded by homophobia and transphobia embedded in most of the traditional churches. From being denied full participation in all aspects of the worshiping life of the church to expulsion or forced therapies, people have become separated from God because of fear and hatred. The MCC movement started in 1968 when a group of gays and lesbians gathered in a living room because they desired to reconnect with God. From their courageous sharing they developed a world-wide affirmation of the contributions that GBLTQ people make to Christian ministry. MCC Illiana is an extension of that uniquely affirming expression of the church in its Christian mission to transform the world towards greater compassion, justice and love.

MCC Illiana, believing that all people are a reflection of God's love, provides NWI with a uniquely diverse and inclusive worshiping community. Embracing an environment of spiritual nourishment and support without stereotypes and prejudices, our church is a place for transformative Christian development for the entire family . We celebrate that witness through worship on Sunday mornings at 10:30am at our church at 5579 Clem Road in Portage, IN. We also offer Bible Studies, small groups and social activities geared to our progressive vision of a fully inclusive faith.

a church and open to all!

Metropolitan Community Church Illiana is open to all people.  Our focus on diversity and love means that you can rediscover the wholeness of Christian community. While our roots are queer, we welcome all into the promise of life in Jesus Christ.  Join us for your path to discovery!

metropolitan community churches statement of faith

Metropolitan Community Churches is one chapter in the story of the Church, the Body of Christ. We are people on a journey, learning to live into our spirituality, while affirming our bodies, our genders, our sexualities. We don't all believe exactly the same things. And yet in the midst of our diversity, we build community, grounded in God's radically inclusive love for all people. We are part of an ongoing conversation on matters of belief and faith, shaped by scripture and the historic creeds, building on those who have come before us. Our chapter begins when God says to us: " Come, taste, and see."

"Come, taste, and see." Jesus Christ, You invite all people to Your open table. You make us Your people, a beloved community. You restore the joy of our relationship with God, even in the midst of loneliness, despair, and degradation. We are each unique and we all belong, a priesthood of all believers. Baptized and filled with Your Holy Spirit, You empower us to be Your healing presence in a hurting world. We expect to see Your reign on earth as it is in heaven as we work toward a world where everyone has enough, wars cease, and all creation lives in harmony. We affirm Your charge to all of humanity to care for the land, sea, and air. Therefore, we will actively resist systems and structures which are destroying Your creation. With all of creation we worship You — every tribe, every language, every people, every nation. We know You by many names, Triune God, beyond comprehension, revealed to us in Jesus Christ, who invites us to the feast.
